Welcome to Home Farm Sanctuary
A homecoming for the wild, the wounded, and the willing

Home Far Sanctuary was never built—it was remembered.

In 2013, everything changed when my daughter Jessica came home from her work at a stock feed store with a tiny orphaned joey in her arms. She had been gifted the joey by a customer who rescued her but didn’t have the space or time to provide the care she needed. That little being—Katie-Willow—opened a doorway we hadn’t known was waiting.

Soon after, three more joeys arrived: two boys we named Bruce and Ralph, and another girl, Matilda. Their presence transformed our land, and in response, we began creating enclosures where they could safely hop, strengthen, and grow. We built not just structures, but a sanctuary field—one where life could begin again.

Over time, Home Far became a haven not only for joeys, but for many birds and native creatures in need. Injured kookaburras were brought in, nursed back to health, and returned to the bush to rejoin their flocks. Countless joeys, once healed, have been released to the wild—some rejoining mobs, others becoming mothers and fathers themselves. Each carries the imprint of care, of trust, of land held in gentleness.

But the sanctuary’s healing power does not stop with wildlife.

Home Far is a sanctuary for humans, too—for survivors, seekers, and sensitives whose journey through life has left invisible bruises. This land holds space for deep rest, for reconnection, and for the slow mending of spirit. Here, the past is not denied—it is alchemised. The pace slows, the nervous system softens, and a different kind of listening begins.

Whether you arrive on two legs or four, with wings or wounds, this sanctuary welcomes you.

It is a remembering of how to be held.

A place where the wild are protected, the hurting are honoured,

and the soul finds room to breathe again.

About the Kangaroos
Guardians of the land and companions in healing

Kangaroos are among Australia’s most iconic and spiritually resonant creatures. As marsupials, they carry their young in protective pouches, embodying the essence of nurturance, resilience, and grace. With their powerful hind legs and long balancing tails, kangaroos are built for boundless movement—yet they also carry a quiet stillness that speaks deeply to those who walk beside them

There are four main species of kangaroo:

  • Red Kangaroo – the largest and most widespread, known for its deep rust colouring and majestic stature.
  • Eastern and Western Grey Kangaroos – more common in coastal and woodland areas, gentle and social.
  • Antilopine Kangaroo – lean and swift, often found in the far north.

Kangaroos are herbivores, thriving on native grasses, leaves, and shrubs. Their unique chambered stomachs help them digest fibrous plant material—similar to ruminants like cows—and they extract most of their water from what they eat, allowing them to survive in arid conditions.

At Home Farm Sanctuary, our relationship with kangaroos is intimate and deeply rooted. The joeys who come into our care are more than rescues—they are reminders of the delicate balance between wildness and trust. Each joey requires nurturing, shelter, and the freedom to grow strong in their own time. Many of them are eventually released back into native bushland, where they rejoin their mobs and start families of their own.

We supplement their environment with native flora, including fresh branches from the wholly bush—a beloved local favorite that we gather and bring in for them to nibble on inside their shelters. We also grow elephant grass as fodder, which they adore, alongside our own fruits and vegetables to keep their diet natural and nourishing.

To care for kangaroos is to witness quiet wisdom, patient recovery, and the unspoken language of presence. They are not just part of the sanctuary—they are the sanctuary. Teachers, companions, and silent healers in fur.

Adoptions & Donations:
How it works & What you get

Adopt or Sponsor a Joey with Homefarm Sanctuary

When you adopt, you’re welcomed into every step of your joey’s journey. From their very first bottle feeds, you’ll receive updates on:

  • Daily care — mixed grains, oaten chaff, fresh grasses, and milk formulas.
  • Health and growth — weight records, bottle feeds in mls, and notes on their progress.
  • Comfort and nurture — the pouches, bottles, teats, heart rugs, and thermometers used to keep them safe and warm (as young joeys can’t regulate their own temperature).
  • Personalities and play — every joey has unique quirks, from quiet confidence to cheeky curiosity. You’ll see them grow in independence and spirit.

Inside, they snuggle in their hanging pouches. Outdoors, they burst into joyful “zoomies,” racing at astonishing speed while somehow never colliding with a thing! Your year-long adoption follows their journey from pinkie (newborn) through rehabilitation, and finally, release into the freedom of our wild mob.

Support Our Little Mob

Some joeys, due to health or growth issues, cannot safely join the wild mob. These joeys remain with us at Homefarm Sanctuary, living their best life under our loving care. Any joeys born within this sanctuary mob are never touched or interfered with. They are born free — and when ready, they naturally join our big wild mob, living the life they were meant to.

Sponsorships Available

By sponsoring one of our sanctuary-born joeys, you’ll receive:

  • A sponsorship certificate
  • Photos and video clips of mama caring for her joey
  • Updates as your sponsored joey grows in confidence and eventually joins our wild mob.

Come walk beside us on this journey of nurture, play, and freedom. Together, we ensure every joey finds its way — whether cared for in the sanctuary or bounding strong into the wild.

Mr Blu with his fractured tail. He was attended by veterinary intervention over several months.  With his fracture mending strong for his designed purpose and functioning mobility…. Mr Blu is still part of our wild released mob, returning often to pop in with Home Farms inner mob for a few days visiting.

Pinkie

Kurby came into care 16th August 2024.  He was found near the Kurby in a local town, hence his name “ Kurby “.  He has been with us for almost a year now.  When we got him he had little hair, extremely cold and frightened. The young lady who found him was so delighted when he survived the first 72 hours.  Kurby has reached all his milestones this past year.   He has a beautiful personality with much to say about everything.  He loves time out of his enclosure to wander and explore.   His best friend is our 3-year-old kelpie, Rusty.  Rusty stays with Kurby when he is out wondering about to ensure he doesn’t wonder too far.  They are adorable together. Kurby enjoys his pellets designed for his healthy growth and fruits, vegetables and grasses.

We offer sponsorship for joeys in pouches; we do not touch these joeys at all.  They are born free and are released into our wild mob to live free.   To sponsor, you will receive a certificate with regular pics & clips as mama raises her joey from first time joey pops his/her head out of pouch to nibble sand and grasses through their first time out of mama's pouch.  The fierce protection of their mama.  Seeing joeys first hopping and balancing on his/her tail as they play and interact with other joeys.  Seeing joeys independence encouraged by mama and the other mob members.  A highlight when our Alpha from birth of Joey clicks as he bends to communicate with Joey in the pouch.  It’s a fascinating journey of wonder and mystery.
